Cost / Time Concerns

Testing your baby for a hearing loss is free in Ohio. The Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) will pay for the cost of a hearing test.

If you have insurance your insurance may pay for all of the hearing test or a part of hearing test. BCMH will cover all of the hearing test or the part that is remaining after your insurance.

Please tell your baby’s doctor you want to use BCMH. Your Parent Advocate will add this information to your profile.

Transportation Help
If you have publicly funded insurance (Medicaid, Care Source, Paramount, etc.); you can get transportation to your baby’s hearing test and set up an appointment. You and your baby will be transported to and from the baby’s hearing test… Free of cost!

Here is how you do it:
Find the county you live in from the list below and call the number listed. You must call at least 5 days before the hearing test appointment. Please have the address of the appointment as well as the date and time ready.
